Year of publication:
In 1922, six-year-old twins get separated by the death of their parents. One girl stays in Germany, the other is adopted by a Dutch family. They only happen to meet again when they are 76 years-old. They tell each other their life stories, and especially the German woman puts a lot of effort into justifying her choices; after all, she was at the wrong – war waging, fascist – side of it all. She tells the tale of a naïve, illiterate country girl.
Made into a film by Ben Sombogaart (2002)
