Marguerite Gachet has just turned twenty-one when Vincent van Gogh enrolls as a patient with her father, who is a physician specialized in mental illnesses as well as an amateur painter.
The doctor keeps his female housemates carefully away from the outside world. His housekeeper and daughter are hardly allowed to go out, his daughter may only leave the house to do the shopping and attend church.
Marguerite falls in love with the eccentric painter, who spends the last seventy days of his life in their village, painting as many paintings. Two of these are pictures of her - his muse.
